For the fourth consecutive year, The Rockefeller Foundation supported the annual NGO Awards, showcasing the outstanding achievements of nonprofit organizations in India and Thailand. Organized by the Resource Alliance in India, and by Kenan Institute in Thailand, the Awards celebrate NGOs that have demonstrated accountability and effectiveness in programming and financial management.
“As the philanthropic sector grows in Asia, effective nonprofits are essential to enabling poor or vulnerable people to become more resilient and to access opportunities that improve their lives,” said Mr. Ashvin Dayal, associate vice president and managing director of The Rockefeller Foundation’s Asia office. “Despite the excellent work being carried out across the sector, NGOs remain under-supported and, at times, untrusted. These awards are essential for showcasing the excellence that exists.”
Twenty-five finalists were chosen from the more than 350 applicants in both countries. (Learn more about the winners in India and Thailand.)
But the benefits weren’t just about winning. The Awards’ in-depth assessment period – which included a series of site visits – afforded each applicant a valuable opportunity for self-reflection about how to enhance its impact and better serve its community.
Continuing the effort to strengthen NGOs across Asia, The Rockefeller Foundation will also support the launch of the first Vietnam NGO Awards. Applications are currently open and will be accepted until January 3, 2014.
