As the third episode in the #RFBreakthrough series, “The Great Equalizer or Divider: Technology for Gender Justice and Women’s Empowerment”, The Rockefeller Foundation hosted a livestream discussion with Vital Voices on how we can use technology as a means to an end to achieve gender equity during the pandemic and beyond.
The Covid-19 pandemic has widened gender and economic inequalities. According to a new analysis commissioned by UN Women and UNDP, by 2021 around 435 million women and girls will be living on less than $1.90 a day —including 47 million pushed into poverty as a result of Covid-19. Building on the progress achieved since the landmark 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the conversation around how technology can reset these predictions to empower women and girls around the world is timelier than ever. To bring this conversation to life, our panelists highlighted real-life examples from their work and answered questions from the audience.
