Dr. Rajiv. J. Shah, President of The Rockefeller Foundation released the following statement regarding the FDA’s approval of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine, now known as Comirnaty, which received full approval for those ages 16 and up on August 23, 2021. Those ages 12-15 can continue to safely receive the vaccine under the emergency use authorization.
The FDA’s full approval of the Pfizer vaccine is good news, it sends a clear signal that the vaccine is safe and effective enough to meet the most rigorous of standards. With Covid-19 cases rising across the nation due to the Delta variant, this approval will give the 92 million Americans who received the Pfizer vaccine greater peace of mind and it gives a boost of confidence for those who still have questions and concerns about getting vaccinated. The FDA’s full approval adds wind the backs of everyone–including those working for and with The Rockefeller Foundation–to ensure an equitable vaccination roll out across the country, get children back in the classroom and parents back to work, and support our most vulnerable communities.
