Anne Applebaum talks to Juan Manuel Santos, former president of Colombia and Nobel Peace Laureate, about ending more than 50 years of conflict in his country.
Juan Manuel Santos served as the President of Colombia from 2010 to 2018. He is a member of The Elders, an independent group of global leaders working together for peace, justice, and human rights. He was the sole recipient of the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize “for his resolute efforts to bring the country’s more than 50-year-long civil war to an end” as he led complex peace negotiations, ending decades of intractable civil war in Colombia.
