Project: “Between Court and Clinical Trials: the Impact of New Technologies of Life on Women’s Sexual Rights in Mexico and Latin America”
Abril Saldaña-Tejeda is a sociologist with more than two decades of experience researching the social determinants of health, genomics and postgenomics. Her recent work has centered on health and social justice issues such as bioethical principles, practices, and regulations on human genome editing, maternal epigenetics, and Covid-19 in the context of genetic capital and fat stigma. Abril came to Bellagio in February 2023 to explore recent clinical trials and court cases involving new reproductive technologies and their impact on the reproductive rights of women from the global south. She is currently an Associate Professor of Sociology in the Department of Philosophy at the Universidad de Guanajuato, Mexico.
