Project: “Triple Decoupling and Development Dilemmas: Imagining and Implementing Green and Just Urban Transitions in Thailand”
Dr. Apiwat Ratanawaraha is a scholar and urban planner focused on urban land policy, infrastructure planning and finance, technology and innovation policy, and strategic foresight. He came to Bellagio in November 2023 to write a book about pathways for just and green urban transitions in Thailand, focusing on the challenges in pursuing growth-resource decoupling while preventing productivity-wage decoupling and social fragmentation. Apiwat is currently an associate professor in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and Deputy Director of the Center for Science, Technology, and Society at Chulalongkorn University. He was previously a visiting professor at MIT’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning and a visiting scholar at the Harvard-Yenching Institute and Kyoto University.
