Ambassador David Lee Carden is a mediator, author, poet, and public speaker who served as the first resident U.S. ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in the Obama Administration. He has written numerous articles on domestic and foreign policy in a variety of publications, including Politico, The Guardian, and Strategic Review. Ambassador Carden visited Bellagio in July 2023 to write a novel exploring the tension between faith and reason, and the role each plays in our lives. He currently serves as the Chair of the Advisory Board for the Center for Rural Engagement at Indiana University and on the Board of the Weinstein International Foundation, which promotes the use of mediation around the world.
