Bellagio Residency: October 2022
Project: “Getting to Reparations”
Dorothy Brown is a nationally recognized legal scholar in the areas of race, class, and tax policy. She is the author of numerous law review articles, books, and essays, including The Whiteness of Wealth (2021). Brown came to Bellagio in October 2022 to work on her latest book, Getting to Reparations, which is based on the underexplored history of the United States paying reparations for slavery, lynching, land theft, and mass incarceration – but never to black Americans. The book project will provide a comprehensive legal and political strategy for getting to reparations. Presently, she is a Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center.
