Bellagio Residency: August 2023
Project: “Revolución Diamantina (Glitter Revolution) – A Ballet for full Orchestra”
Gabriela Ortiz Torres is a Latin Grammy nominated composer, and one of the most vibrant musicians emerging on the international scene. She has written music for dance, theater and cinema, and her work focuses on the connections between gender, social justice, environmental concerns, and racism, as well as the phenomenon of multiculturality caused by globalization, technological development, and mass migrations. She has composed three operas, each of which were framed by political contexts of great complexity: the drug war, illegal migration between Mexico and the United States, and the violation of university autonomy. Gabriela came to Bellagio in August 2023 to write the orchestra score for a ballet about feminist movements in Latin America.
