Project: “The Digital Lives of Muslim Women”
Ibtissam Bouachrine is a distinguished scholar and author currently focused on the intersection of technology, ethics, law, and women’s rights in Muslim-majority contexts. She has published two books on women and gender in Muslim-majority countries and has been awarded numerous grants and fellowships from various organizations, including the National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute and The David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies. Ibtissam visited Bellagio in August 2023 to conduct research for a book about online misogyny in the context of North Africa and the Middle East. She is the current chair and a professor in the department of Spanish and Portuguese at Smith College and a visiting scholar at Harvard University.
