Project: “Remote Control: Dignity and Justice in the Digital Gilded Age”
Julia Angwin is an award-winning investigative journalist and contributing Opinion writer at The New York Times. She visited Bellagio in October 2023 to write a book about the human impacts of living in a world of automated decision making. Julia is the founder of The Markup, a nonprofit newsroom that investigates the impacts of technology on society, and is currently an Entrepreneur in Residence at Columbia Journalism School’s Brown Institute. She is also the author of two books: Dragnet Nation: A Quest for Privacy, Security and Freedom in a World of Relentless Surveillance and Stealing MySpace: The Battle to Control the Most Popular Website in America.
