Project: “Addressing the Climate and Care Crisis”
María Alejandra Escalante is a queer feminist and leading climate justice activist who has organized local, regional, and global coalitions, particularly with youth groups, around building demands and alternatives for climate justice from the realities of the South. María visited Bellagio in February 2023 as part of a group residency to develop a strategic plan for addressing the climate and care crises, placing feminist analysis at the heart of a just response. She currently co-leads the Funder Learning and Action Community on Gender and the Environment and is an advisor to the Climate Justice Resilience Fund and the Next Generation Climate Board of the Global Greengrants Fund.
