Monique is a seasoned strategist with over 20 years of experience working with organizations, networks, and foundations to advance social justice and human rights. She joined The Rockefeller Foundation to lead programming for the Bellagio Center, including its renowned residencies and convenings.
Before to joining the Foundation, Monique served as director of strategy for Beyond 100K, a network of U.S. organizations dedicated to advancing racial equity in STEM education. She also held several leadership positions in philanthropy, where she focused on grantmaking to address gender-based violence and strengthen movement-building initiatives.
Prior to that, Monique spent a decade in the LGBTQ movement. She served as chief of staff at the National LGBTQ Task Force and was involved in numerous campaigns for LGBTQ rights nationwide. She also served on Barack Obama’s first presidential campaign, where she helped mobilize a national network of LGBTQ leaders to support his historic run. Early in her career, Monique worked as a civil rights lawyer, focusing on women in the criminal justice system.
Of all her accomplishments, she is most proud of her daughter, Karina, from whom she learns every day. Monique is a long-time resident of Brooklyn and enjoys spending as much time as she can in her adopted home state of Maine.
