Project: “Children of a Modest Star: Governing in the Planetary Age”
Nils Gilman is the deputy editor of Noema Magazine. He is also the vice president of programs at the Berggruen Institute. Gilman came to Bellagio in March of 2022, with collaborator Jonathan Blake, to work on a book tentatively titled “Children of a Modest Star: Governing in a Planetary Age.” Gilman has won the Sidney Award from the New York Times and an Albie Award from The Washington Post. He is the author of “Mandarins of the Future: Modernization Theory in Cold War America” (2004) and “Deviant Globalization: Black Market Economy in the 21st Century” (2011) as well as numerous articles on intellectual history and political economy.
