Project: “Humanizing the Blue Era, African Perspectives”


Rose Boswell is a widely published anthropologist, scholar, and author specializing in cultural heritage studies in Africa. She has conducted anthropological research in Mauritius, Madagascar, Seychelles, Zanzibar, South Africa, Kenya, and Namibia. She visited Bellagio in April 2023 to write a book on coastal intangible cultural heritage protection in several of her African research sites. Rose is currently the DSI-NRF South African Research Chair in Ocean Cultures and Heritage. She has partnered with the UKRI funded One Ocean Hub project, as well as the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and various NRF Community of Practice to advance research on Coastal cultural heritage.
