Project: “A Toxic Trail: A blueprint For Covering The Dangerous Legacy Of Lead Contaminated Soil In America’s Urban Centers”


Yvette Cabrera is a member of Investigative Reporters & Editors, the Society of Environmental Journalists, and in 2021, she helped launch The Uproot Project, a network for environmental journalists of color. In March 2022, she used her time at Bellagio to create a journalist’s guide for investigating soil lead contamination across U.S. cities. This new project is based on her previous work examining the impact of systemic disparities on marginalized communities. Cabrera currently serves as president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. She is a senior reporter at the investigative news nonprofit, The Center for Public Integrity, where she covers inequality in social & economic well-being, including environmental justice issues.

Yvette Cabrera is a senior reporter at the Center for Public Integrity, an investigative news  nonprofit where she covers inequality in economic and social well-being with a focus on environmental justice issues. She reports at the intersection of justice and equity and examines the impact of systemic disparities, such as environmental pollution and contamination, on marginalized communities throughout the United States. She serves as president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and is a founding member of The Uproot Project, a network for environmental journalists of color.
